It’s spring time in the Midwest. Dodging rain storms and looking forward to sunny, summer-like days are becoming the thing to do as we put away our snow shovels and winter coats. I found Chasing Rain from Crooked Pecker Brewing Company to be an excellent beer to sip on recently while preparing for and thinking about the warmer months ahead.

Crooked Pecker Brewing Company is a small town brewery out of Chagrin Falls, OH that has been pumping out solid beers since its inception in September of 2019. The brewery has put itself on the map for producing a growing portfolio of beers, including top notch IPAs in Ohio and the Midwest. Crooked Pecker may be a funny brewery name to say, but their beers are worth the hype whether you’re stopping in at the brewery or happen to stumble upon some in a trade or share.

Chasing Rain was released last July and has reappeared a few other times in the brewery’s almost weekly can drops available to patrons. Signing up for their can release emails is as simple as visiting their webpage, dropping your email, and proving you’re not a robot. The beer notes for Chasing Rain include “tropical notes including pineapple and mango.” It is also claimed to be best to enjoy during the steamy summer days. I enjoyed mine on a steamy spring day when the temperatures rose into the 70s up here in Michigan. I know that’s no where near a sticky July day, but that’s the best I could do.

Knowing that IPAs are Crooked Pecker’s bread and butter, I had high hopes for Chasing Rain. I was not disappointed. The 7.7% ABV New England IPA delivered with all of the tropical flavor the can description promised. The Motueka and Galaxy hops did their thing! Also, much to my surprise, I found the mouthfeel to be soft and somewhat creamy. Typically, IPAs can have a strong, bitter bite, but this was not the case with Chasing Rain.

I cannot wait to drink another Crooked Pecker brew! Everything I’ve had from them, including Chasing Rain, has been delectable. Don’t sleep on Crooked Pecker Brewing Company!

Cheers!

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
