Over the last 9 months on this page, we have visited almost every part of Michigan to review a brewery. We have visited the Upper Peninsula, Northern Michigan, Mid-Michigan, The West Side of the State, Detroit, Ann Arbor, Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Marquette and everywhere in between. The only part of the State that has gone neglected so far has been the Thumb area of Michigan. That ends today when we pay a visit to the Thumb Brewery in Caseville, Michigan.

Thumb Brewery opened their doors back in 2014. The brewery operated for 6 years before being taken over by the current ownership group in July of 2020. Just a disclaimer: I did not visit the Thumb Brewery prior to the change in ownership. My brewery trips did not take me to the Thumb area of Michigan for the first time until the summer of 2023.

Unbeknownst to us, during our visit to Thumb Brewery, we went on the last day of the annual Cheeseburger Festival in Caseville, Michigan. There were people everywhere for the festival, finding a place to park was a challenge all on its own. Luckily we were waiting outside the brewery about a half hour before they opened for the day because if we had shown up 15 minutes after opening, we might not have gotten a seat. They were absolutely packed the minute they opened the doors for the day.

When you go into the brewery itself, there is some seating scattered throughout the building. With the weather on the day of our visit, they were kind of directing everyone to go outside. Since it was an August afternoon without a cloud in the sky, we obliged and went outside to enjoy our beverages on our visit. Thumb Brewery has an expansive outdoor patio area that is a perfect place to enjoy a few beers while you breathe in the fresh air that is blowing in off of Lake Huron. There are a ton of outdoor seating options available for you to enjoy a lazy afternoon while soaking up some Michigan Summer sun.

The Thumb Brewery hosts multiple events throughout their space including but not limited to Music Bingo, Live Music and Comedy Shows. Check their website or their social media avenues to see if there will be an event on the day that you visit the brewery. They also allow for private event rentals at Thumb Brewery, so if you and your gang of hooligans are looking for a brewery to host your next event at, contact Thumb Brewery for pricing and reservations.

There is a kitchen at the Thumb Brewery which offers a full menu that includes options such as Appetizers, Sandwiches, Burgers, Salads, Flatbreads and Desserts. They do offer a brunch menu on Sunday Afternoons also, so if you are looking to have a few Bloody Mary’s and some food to cure your hangover blues, Thumb Brewery has you covered on Sunday for all your drinking and dining needs.

In addition to beer, the Thumb Brewery does have a few liquor options with some handcrafted cocktails that are made in house. As evidenced by their Bloody Mary’s on Sundays. The Thumb also carries various different wines for the non-beer drinker in your group. For non-alcoholic options, Thumb Brewery offers various sodas and other non-alcoholic options for those of you out there that do not drink.

When it comes to the beer at Thumb Brewery, they offer 28 taps of beer at all times. Not all of this beer will be their own beer, they do have quite a few different guest taps They offer 28 taps of beer, some of their own beer and multiple guest taps. Even if they don’t have something that they make in house that appeals to you, one of their many other taps should satiate your thirst. Like I mentioned earlier, on our visit we went during the Cheeseburger Festival, as a result, they only had three of their own beers on tap. Instead of our normal flight of beers, between Crystal and I, we ended up just ordering our own pints of beer and trying a sample of the last beer that they offered at the time.

For the beer that we ended up trying, we got a sample of their Casevillian Lawnmower Lager, Crystal ended up getting the Quinn’s Irish Red Ale and I ended up getting their Oatmeal Stout. This beer was light-bodied for a Stout, it had a slight sweetness with hints of Oatmeal and Coffee. This Stout also finished very smooth with an ABV of 5.2%, this is a beer that you can have multiple of before it starts to catch up with you. If your timing allows it, I recommend having a few of them if you can.

The next time that you are looking to travel around the Thumb area of Michigan and you get a little thirsty, I recommend stopping at Thumb Brewery in Caseville. Hanging out on their outdoor patio on a nice Summer day can’t be beat and they serve some pretty delicious beer to go along with it. Cheers!
