The 2021 Burning Foot Beer Festival was an excellent way to soak in summer for one final weekend. The one-of-a-kind beer festival took place on August 28, 2021 at Pere Marquette Beach in beautiful Muskegon, MI.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Burning Foot Beer Festival back in 2019. After the festival was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, we were ready to return to the sandy beach and sample beers from a handful of the 70+ breweries from across Michigan and nearby states of Indiana and Illinois.

My goal was to drink as many light beers as possible to make it to a few of the concerts later in the evening. The meld of music and beer at one festival truly makes Burning Foot Beer Festival one of the most unique and sought after tickets in the Midwest.

Here are my winners from the festival in alphabetical order by brewery name. I stuck to my goal of lighter beers for the most part.

Blurred Limes

Grand Armory Brewing | Grand Haven | Cream Ale | 4.5%

Blurred Limes cut through the heat on the hot Saturday afternoon. Grand Armory Brewing‘s key lime pie flavored Cream Ale was fun and I will be seeking it out in the market. At Burning Foot it hit the spot and made me want to get up and dance! “Everybody get up!”

Madam

Griffin Claw Brewing Company | Birmingham | Japanese Rice Lager | 5%

Madam from Griffin Claw Brewing Company had me floored at how crisp and light it was. This beer forced me to do a little research and learn more about Japanese Rice Lagers. This beer style is something I want to spend more time, energy, and effort tasting and seeing what this style is all about. If you know of any Japanese Rice Lagers, send them my way!

Oro de Calabaza

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales | Dexter | Belgian Strong Golden Ale | 8%

Oro de Calabaza was a beer that had so much going on in it. Hats of to the team at Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales for concocting such a complex beer. Sure, it was 8% and a little on the boozy side, but that’s thanks to the wild yeast used. With subtle notes of hops and spice, this beer wowed me.

The Fat King

Loaded Dice Brewery | Troy | Weizenbock | 8.7%

When Jef Smith, owner and head brewer at Loaded Dice Brewery, recited what was in The Fat King my goals of staying light with the beer samples went out the window. Banana, peanut butter, and bacon. The fact that this beer was part of a trifecta of beers created in honor of Elvis made it that much more worthwhile to check out and enjoy!

Pink Lemonade Lager

ROAK Brewing Co | Marshall | American Lager | 4.8%

Remember the pitchers of pink lemonade you used to chug with your buddies in their driveway on a hot summer day after playing an intense game of baseball or football? No. Just me? Well, ROAK Brewing Co‘s Pink Lemonade Lager brought back those memories with their near perfect match of pink lemonade in beer form.

Cheers!

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
