Happy 616 Day from Better on Draft!

The phone area code for the Grand Rapids area and local suburbs is 616. Today is June 16 or 6/16. With this fun, numeric coincidence, I’ve created two lists of Grand Rapids area breweries worth checking out who also have a 616 area code.

In order to be fair, both lists are in alphabetical order by brewery name. All brewery locations, hours, social media channels, and information about each brewery can be found on the Michigan Beer Map, which is an excellent app and companion for your Michigan beer adventures.

6 Mainstay Breweries

The first list is made up of 6 breweries that are true mainstays of the Grand Rapids and greater Grand Rapids area. When “Grand Rapids” or “West Michigan” come to mind, so should these 6 breweries. They are tried and true brands that have risen to the top of the game. None of them have fallen flat. All of them are continuing to develop and add their own spin and touch within the  Michigan craft beer scene.

  • Brewery Vivant

  • City Built Brewing Company

  • The Mitten Brewing Co

  • New Holland Brewing

  • Odd Side Ales

  • Perrin Brewing Co

16 Worth the Hype Breweries

This list of 16 includes breweries that have received hype and have followed through with their product to meet the hype. Each one has something different to offer within beer style niches, location, and/or excellent vibes.

  • Arvon Brewing Co

  • Brewery 4 Two 4

  • Broad Leaf Brewery & Spirits

  • Cedar Springs Brewing

  • DeHop’s Brewing Company and Café

How to Celebrate 616 Day

Celebrating 616 Day is easy. Go to and/or pick up beers from a brewery that has a 616 area code, whether they made these lists or not, and drink the beers. Supporting local breweries is the name of the game when it comes to celebrating 616 Day!

The Others

I know, I know. I left off your favorite brewery. Which one(s) should have made either list that also have a 616 area code? Let me know in the comments, so I can give them a fair shake and see what I missed.

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
