Old Nation Brewing Company is the small town brewery in Williamston, MI that has become a destination brewery for many across the Great Lakes region. People are coming from all around to see what this NEIPA business was about.

Old Nation is more than a one-trick pony. They have great beers all year round ranging from traditional German style beers, trendy beers with NEIPA’s and, now, Brut IPAs, and is always willing to experiment, like it did at the Detroit Fall Beer Fest with a Skittles M-43.

All of that was on display on December 31, 2018 when the brewery decided to throw a New Year’s Eve party, Old Nation style!

Here is a recap of the event and it’s offerings!

As guests checked in at the hostess station, they were handed a commemorative New Year’s Eve glass filled with three beer tickets.

Celebratory “Happy New Year 2019” with Old Nation logo on one side. Old Nation logo on the other.

Also inside the glass were two raffle tickets. Raffle prizes ranged from four crowler fills to clothing and gift baskets to glassware.

The beer on tap was filled with an eclectic selection, including Small Tide, Day Maus, Rykshaw, Ten Penny Bit, Honey Saison, Brother Pious Barleywine, Cart Horse NEIPA, and the new brews on the block Brut IPA and Citra Flat Brain.

As one can see from the picture, there are a few blank spots on the beer list. Those were reserved for the special New Year’s Only Beers, which were a tart Strawberry M-43, Coconut Tiramisu Electron Brown, Crème Brûléee Chestnut Bock, and the best one of them all, Mango Boss Tweed. All four were fun to try and drink. After one burned through the provided beer tickets, the cash bar began, but you can’t beat $2.50 beers for the rest of the night!

Seating was available at the bar, in the spacious dining room, and in the brewhouse. A DJ from Capitol City DJs was spinning tunes in the dining room while people held conversations over the appetizers and desserts.

The brewhouse was it’s own party as Sinjon Smith put on a show! With the backdrop of rows and rows of cans to be filled with Old Nation’s fine liquid products, “Michigan’s Premier Cover Dance Band” played radio hits from the 70s to today with the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac, The Cranberries, and Ed Sheeran to name a few.

As the final seconds of 2018 slipped away, everyone raised a glass of the new B-43, Old Nation’s Brut IPA which was a refreshing way to end 2018 and begin 2019!

Pizza was on hand for all in attendance to fulfill late night cravings after a night of festive drinking. Best Western of Okemos/East Lansing Hotel & Suites provided a free shuttle throughout the night to and from the hotel to the brewery. Hat’s off to Old Nation for partnering with the hotel in order to provide a group rate on a place to stay after the party and a safe way to get there, especially for those that were out of town.

Old Nation’s NYE party was tremendous as it showcased the strength of their beer portfolio and hospitality as it was a fun-filled and friendly atmosphere to ring in 2019.

Cheers!

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
