Staying in Lawton, Michigan today, almost directly across the street from Thursday’s review (sorry I missed the last few days), Longship Brewing Company is another brewery, Big T Brewpub. For a small town like Lawton, the fact that they can sustain two breweries across the street from each other is very impressive. Big T has been in operation since 1979, but didn’t start brewing their own beer until 2018.

Big T Brewpub is a massive place, it spans almost an entire city block, but started as just one building, and has seen them expand four times over the years to encompass 5 different buildings. The buildings that they occupy were all Victorian built designs from the 1800’s and all the buildings are different colors, which makes for a very unique looking building for one business to be housed in.

Even more impressive than the building is when you get inside and realize that they have a total capacity of 320 people, that is a pretty big capacity for a small town like Lawton. There is also a really big square shaped bar that maybe fits about 30 or so people at it. They were really busy during my visit, so I had to sit at a table. Big T has outdoor seating available. Another thing that they offer is private event rentals, there are 3 unique themed rooms that can accommodate 50 to 80 people for your next event.

Big T has what they call the Wall of Foam, which costs one dollar to join, but in order to actually get your name on the Wall, you have to finish drinking 130 different beers from them. Over 20,000 people have signed up to attempt the wall, but only a little over 2,000 currently have their name on the wall.

Since they are a Brewpub, they do have a kitchen on site. They had an absolutely massive menu during my visit. I am not even going to try to name things they offer because I can’t do the entire menu justice, but I did eat here, and had one of the best burgers I have ever had in our neck of the woods. I highly recommend grabbing a burger from Big T on your visit.

In addition to their own beer, they offer over 200 different options for bottled beer, and have various guest beers on draft. I got a flight of their options on tap, which they do offer up to 27 taps of house made beer, cider and seltzer at all times. My flight included Weirdo With A Beardo- Scotch Ale, Deadly Night Shade- Black IPA, Tabbis- Cream Ale, and Les Knows Best- Vanilla Porter. Surprisingly my favorite of the bunch was the Vanilla Porter, I usually don’t care for Vanilla in my beer, but it complimented their Porter very well.

When the city of Lawton comes calling your name, pull into Big T Brewpub and grab yourself a couple of beverages and a bite to eat, all while checking out a really unique older building with its fair share of history behind it. Prost!
