Odd Side Ales brews some really “out there” type beers that just happen to work and be tremendously delicious.  Their original Mayan Mocha stout was fantastic, so I knew I had to try their Imperial Mayan Stout.  Once again, Odd Side does not disappoint with a wonderful imperial stout.

It pours with a thick, chocolate hued head, that has medium lacing as you drink it down the glass.  The aroma has strong smells of coffee with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg.  The Mayan Imperial has a color reminiscent of black coffee, with a flavor to match.  The strong coffee flavor is balanced against a sweetness enhanced by the cinnamon and nutmeg, and smoothed out by the higher alcohol content that makes this an Imperial stout.  The habanero does not in any way overpower the overall flavor of the beer or make it super spicy.  It is a nice ascent that is more in the finish than anything else.

This thick bodied beer is definitely not a session beer at 10% ABV.  It is, however, an amazing after dinner beer that would go with a spiced cake or chocolate dessert.  I drank one after my chili cook-off this past Saturday and it was wonderful.
