“Low calories for the active lifestyle. Enjoy the taste without the hangover.”

When I read these taglines on a sponsored social media post, I was intrigued. Athletic Brewing Co out of Stratford, CT was making big promises with their non-alcoholic beer. After sifting through a fair amount of non-alcoholic options during Dry January and trying a few with Shannon Long and Jack Zetouna on Episode 2 of the Dry January series, I knew the options for non-alcoholic beer were all over the place.

Thanks to a complimentary shipment with a variety of beers from Athletic Brewing’s portfolio, I enjoyed every single one of the brews. To put it simply, Athletic Brewing Co delivered on its promise. Move over NEIPAs! NAIPAs are coming in!

Run Wild IPA was my favorite. There was a consistent balance of hops and malts throughout each sip just like an American IPA should taste like. The beer was flavorful and complete. I say this because there are several NA beers on the market that are thin and do not have any resemblance to what beer actually tastes like. Run Wild IPA actually tastes like an IPA!

As of July 1, 2020, Athletic Brewing Co is distributing Run Wild IPA and Upside Dawn Golden Ale in Michigan. I’ve been able to locate Run Wild IPA at one bottle shop. I’m hoping more stores and breweries jump on the health-conscious bandwagon and continue to provide lighter options to their offerings and portfolios, respectively!

If you’d like more information about Athletic Brewing Co, check out Episode 221 of the Better on Draft podcast. The crew had John and Bill on to talk NA beers and what’s new with Athletic Brewing Co.

Cheers!

Disclaimer: Thank you to Athletic Brewing Company for sending Better on Draft plenty of their brews to try and sample!

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
