Oscoda’s longtime brewpub has decided to close permanently. Wiltse’s Brewpub and Family Restaurant made the announcement on their now-deleted Facebook page yesterday, April 27, 2023.
Wiltse’s has been on the market for a year or so, looking to find a buyer interested in carrying on the 40+ year legacy. Known for having Michigan third brewpub license in the state, Wiltse’s has come to be known as an institution of Michigan Craft Beer. Described on Pure Michigan’s website as “an innovative leader: no filtering, no pasteurization, and no adjuncts”, you knew what you were getting at Wiltse’s.
According to the 2021 Brewery Production Numbers for Michigan, Wiltse’s Brewpub produced 87 barrels of beer. In comparison, here are the first 10 breweries under 100 barrels:
