It’s December 1st, which means it is time to start the advent calendars ranging from Legos to puzzles, winter wonderland scenes to beer!

For me, I like to work through the beer advent calendars, and I’m happy to have the box from Craft Beer Cellar Grand Rapids!

I picked it up before Thanksgiving and was able to talk to Brian Beaucher, one of the owners of Craft Beer Cellar Grand Rapids, about this year’s box. Most of the information he shared with me last year for the 2018 Beer Advent Box Preview is the same but there were a few changes for 2019.

This year Brian and his team built two types of advent boxes – Beer-Only and Cider-Only. He said that based on customer feedback and a booming craft cider market, he wanted to see how the cider-only box would do. As of pick up, there were a few still available.

Brian happily shared that the entire allotment of beer boxes (144) was sold out prior to December 1st, a first for Craft Beer Cellar GR.

Without giving too much away, Brian said the 2019 beer box has more beers from Michigan breweries, especially those new to the scene in terms of canning and distribution. He also said there will be a few beers from national brand breweries, too.

I will be posting each beer in the box on Instagram – @beerded_ed – and plan on compiling best of lists at the end of the year, so stay tuned!

Check out last year’s lists:

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
