When you are on a mission to visit every brewery in the state you get to meet a lot of people, try a lot of different beers and see some really cool places. The downside is some of those really cool places are really far away from home. That’s exactly what I found in Brooks Brewing in Shelby Township.

Ok. So it’s not REALLY far away. At an hour from my home in the craft beer wasteland it’s officially on the two far to drop in on a whim list. That totally bums me out because I could see myself hanging out there quite a bit.

brooks-brewing-reviewFrom the moment we walked in were made to feel welcome. With over 20 beers on tap the only possible decision was a flight. Since we had a decent sized group that quickly turned into let’s just try them all. Which included the two bottle only options available as well.

I won’t lie and tell you I liked everything… I don’t like every style so that wouldn’t ring true. But I will tell you that they have some seriously good beer. There were a whole lot of them that the group was arguing over who would finish. That’s a sign of good beer in my book. I’m anxiously awaiting being able to take the Tyrants Tripel home with me too. That will warrant a second trip for sure!

Besides the fantastic beer and the friendly staff, I loved the old school video games. The setup allowed room for plenty of room for different sized group and for people like me who like to belly up to the bar. The only downfall I found was the lack of food, and honestly, I don’t think it’s a bad thing to focus on the Beer. Oh wait. There was also the Boy band poster that seemed to be staring at me in the restroom. But hey, some people might find that a plus.

All in all, I say if you are near Shelby Township give Brooks Brewing a visit. If you happen to find that you can take the Tyrants Tripel home with you while you are there, just remember who sent you!!
