The Michigan Brewers Guild hosted the 17th Annual Winter Beer Festival last weekend on Saturday, February 25. The one day festival was held at the LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park, a few miles north of Grand Rapids.

Saturday was a typical winter day with some clouds in the sky, temperatures in the mid 30s, and good ‘ole cold winter vibes. Everyone’s spirits were high because you can’t go wrong with a beer festival!

Prior to the festival, we put together a list of 20 beers for attendees to try. While I worked through this list, stopped by various tents to say hi and a handshake, I also went off the list to find new favorites.

It’s impossible to try the over 700 beers available from the 120 or so breweries, but here are the favorites from what was enjoyed on Saturday. Beers are listed in alphabetical order based on brewery name.

Barrel Aged German Rex

3 Gatos Brewery | Wyoming | Doppelbock | 8%

Ties the Room Together

Coopersville Brewing Company | Coopersville | Coffee Porter | 7.1%

Soupy C

Griffin Claw Brewing Company | Birmingham | Milk Stout | 8%

Orange Cream Ale

Ludington Bay Brewing Co | Ludington | Cream Ale | 5.6%

Mosiac Trellis

Thornapple Brewing Co | Grand Rapids | NEIPA | 6.5%

King Cake Lager

Tri City Brewing | Bay City | Helles Lager | 5.8%

What were your favorites from the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer Festival? We’re looking forward to the Spring Beer Festival in May!

Cheers!

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
