Do you like having breweries that are a little closer to home? I know that I do. Just a couple of miles away from my house sits Northville Winery and Brewing Company. They opened as a winery back in 1982, added a beer brewing license in 2014 and have been producing beer for Northville and the surrounding communities ever since.
The winery started across the parking lot in the building that houses Parmenter’s Northville Cider Mill, which serves very delicious Cider and Donuts during Cider season. They expanded to their own stand alone building in 2012 when owners Rob and Carina Nelson started making their own wine. Shortly after they continued expanding by adding a Microbrewery in 2014.
One of the things that makes this brewery very unique, all of their seating is outdoors now. They used to have a small indoor seating area previous to the pandemic, but now operate their business completely outdoors. You go up to a window and order your beverages, then take a seat outside. There are a ton of picnic tables scattered around the front lawn of the Winery. I could make a guess at approximate capacity, but since I am not sure, we will just say that there is plenty of seating available.
The Northville Winery has live music most nights that they are open during the warmer months. I know that they host Grateful Dead themed nights on Thursdays, which does have a $10 cover charge to attend. They also have live music every other day of the week Wednesday through Sunday. During the Grateful Dead nights and possibly on other nights of the week, local artist and follower of the page, Jody Bauman can be seen painting on the property. Check their website or socials to see what live music act might be playing during your visit.
When it comes to food, there is no kitchen on the premises but they do offer an impressive lineup of rotating food trucks on the property. If you don’t want to eat off the food truck that is available during your visit, outside food is welcome at Northville Winery. Take a look at their socials to see what food truck may be present for your day at the Winery.
As I mentioned before they are a Winery, so for those that don’t drink beer they offer Wine and various flavors of Hard Cider. We get our draft Cider from the Northville Winery at Bearded Lamb Brewing Company actually, we keep it nice and local. Non-alcoholic options include various sodas, Izzie’s sparkling juice and as mentioned before, there is a Cider Mill on the property. You can always go and get some delicious Cider from Parmenter’s to enjoy if you don’t drink.
We have come to that point of the review where we get to talk about the beer that is offered at Northville Winery. Some of the beers that I have enjoyed over the years include their Marzen Hotel- Marzen, Fest Western- Festbier, Rock Me Hopadeus- IPA, Peace Porter- Nitro Porter, Espress Yourself- Coffee Stout, Royal Grand Cru- Belgian Strong Ale, Mike Murphy’s Irish Stout and many more.
My favorite beer that I have had over all of my visits to Northville Winery has to be their Stout known as Dark Hollow. This beer is darker than my soul, drinks very heavy, yet creamy at the same time. This beer has a pronounced coffee flavor and has a little bit of lingering sweetness on the back end. Dark Hollow tips the scales at a 6.7% ABV, so for the darkness and the amount of flavor, you would expect this one to check in higher. But still proceed with caution while drinking multiple of these, they can catch up to you if you are not paying attention.
Are you looking to go to a local Cider Mill sometime during the coming months? Do you want to go to one that carries their own beer? Look no further than Northville Winery and Brewing Company for all your festive Cider Mill and brewery needs. Cheers!
