By September 2023, I had visited every brewery in Traverse City, and had officially crossed Traverse City off the list. So enter late 2023 and what did they do? They opened a new brewery in Traverse City so that I had to squeeze another visit to Traverse into my schedule in June while hopping all over the state cleaning up the map. Oh darn, another trip to beautiful Traverse City for beer, what a shame…..
Identity Brewing Company is right in Downtown Traverse City. They are just South of Front Street, and are located on Union Street. They used to be the Dish Cafe, and officially rebranded as Identity Brewing Company on December 1st of 2023. At that point they began to establish their identity.
The bar area has just a couple of seats at the bar, maybe 6 to 8. As a matter of a fact, I had to sit at a…..gasp……table to partake in my beverages while I was there. They had quite a few tables scattered throughout the place for your dining and drinking needs. They do allow you to rent out the space for private events, so contact them if you are interested in hosting an event in Traverse City.
Identity Brewing Company has an outdoor area that they use for musical performances and other live events. The outside area is dog friendly, so you and Spot can sit outside and enjoy a few beers and some sunshine even if there is no event going on. Check their website and socials to see if they have any events going on when planning your visit.
They do have a kitchen with a full food menu. I did not eat here while I was there, I was looking for more standard drinking type food at the time. They offer a very healthy menu of options, pitas, shawarmas, salads, quesadillas, and various other options. It all looked and smelled great, I was just looking for something with a little more grease and or carbs in it. They do offer catering as an option, so if you are looking to feed a big group of people some very healthy food, Identity Brewing Company has you covered.
Now to the beer. I sat down and ordered a flight. At the time of my visit they had 5 beers on tap. So I opted to try them all. The flight consisted of Simple Man-Cream Ale, Ja Boom- Hazy IPA, What Would Jesus Brew- Cream Ale, they had another one, but I apparently forgot to check it in on Untappd. They also had Zombie Dinosaurs-IPA, from Starving Artist Brewing Company on tap. Since I had just visited the guys at Starving Artist earlier in the day and this wasn’t on tap at Starving Artist, I had to give it a shot. My favorite out of the bunch was the What Would Jesus Brew, it was a light-bodied cream ale with a slight coffee and vanilla flavor to it. Very tasty and very light, you can enjoy multiple in one sitting if your heart desires.
Now I mentioned earlier that I was looking for not so healthy food options to go with my beer. About 2 doors down was a pretzel place, Petoskey Pretzel Place. The pretzels were awesome here, just wanted to give them a quick shout out.
Are you heading up to Traverse City in the future for some great times? Looking to do some brewery hopping while you are up there? I recommend stopping by and checking out Identity Brewing Company on your beer travels. Na Zdrowie!
