In honor of Gene Wilder, I grabbed a bottle of Snozzberries brewed by Odd Side Ales. As he once said in Blazing Saddles “You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons.”

Kind of a weird color, this one. It was a deeper red-brown than I expected and there was not a lot of foam. Not what I was expecting but not terrible either. It smells like an IPA!

The vast majority of taste in this beer is definitely a wit IPA. There are tastes of cherry tartness around the edges but there isn’t much there, cherry-wise. It floats over top just out of reach. It’s the curly lines that hover just outside of your eyesight. You know it’s there, every once in awhile you catch a glimpse but it’s just not on full display. This will really work for people looking for a gently fruited beer.

I was thinking about giving this beer a seven. I was told on the bottle that there would be cherries. I felt as though there were not enough cherries and therefore I threw a review tantrum. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth but the more I drank, the more I enjoyed it. It grew on me. It grew to an eight. Not quite a golden ticket but pretty close.

How timely! I loves me some OddSide, I’ll give this one a try if I see it around and pour a bit on the ground for my homie, Gene. RIP
