Winter is usually the time I stock my fridge with stouts, eat lots of potato-based foods, but my WiFi’s streaming limit to the test, and make a scary number of legging purchases. It’s my version of hibernation. This phase tends to last through January, and while I may not be the best at keeping it “dry”, I can make some exceptions.

The beer world has exploded with non-alcoholic options to make even the darkest days tolerable. There are so many non-alcoholic stouts on the market that my hibernation needs are pretty much all met. Sometimes, though, the sun peeks through the clouds, the temperature rockets up to 45°, and I just want to drink a summer beer.

Thankfully, that need has been met as well! Untitled Art‘s Non-Alcoholic Juicy IPA gave me absolute summer vibes. While the temperature dropped outside my door and my feet were tucked under a blanket, I was able to imagine beaches, hammocks, sunglasses, and driving with the windows down. The beer in my glass was a perfectly opaque, golden orange that looked like the summer sun. It was quite the departure from the thick, heady stouts I am used to enjoying this time of year.

Enjoyed on a freakishly warm Thursday in January!

If this non-alcoholic beer was set next to a standard juicy IPA, I wouldn’t be surprised it they were indistinguishable. Apart from the benefit of not getting buzzed, this non-alcoholic beer resembled many of the juicy IPAs from this past summer with a crisp, bubbly mouthfeel and a delicious citrus tang. The explosion of flavor was so delightful that I was very sad when I finished the can. Back to winter, I guess.

In the name of New Year’s Resolutions and Dry January, I feel relieved knowing I can still have a few sips of summer here and there when I really need them. This might be an easy winter so far, but it never stays that way. It’s nice to know that when things inevitably get cold and dark, a little canned sunshine isn’t too far away.
