Now that we have crossed the Mackinac Bridge and find ourselves in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, why don’t we go ahead and stop at the first place that makes their own beer on this side of the bridge, Les Cheneaux Distillers in Cedarville, Michigan. Cedarville is located approximately 35 minutes Northeast of the Mackinac Bridge off of M-134. Les Cheneaux Distillery opened in 2017 and has been creating quality beer and spirits from day one.

When you walk into the Distillery, it is a wide open area with plenty of seating placed throughout. The bar area is a rectangular shaped bar that can seat approximately 15 to 20 people at it comfortably. There is also an outdoor seating area in case you want to breathe in some of that fresh U.P. air as you enjoy a beverage or two.

The Distillery does host a variety of events including live music, check their socials or their website to see if they are having any events during your visit. They do allow for rentals of the space for private events, please contact the Distillery for details and options for hosting your next big event.

Les Cheneaux does have a kitchen and offers quite the extensive menu, they have options such as appetizers, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, entrees and desserts. We have eaten here multiple times over the years that we have been visiting, and the food here is exceptional. I have never had anything off the menu that was not enjoyable.

Since they are a Distillery, they do offer liquor that is made in house (of course), along with a variety of hand crafted cocktails forged from their distilled products. Even as a non-liquor drinker these days, I have tried sips of their cocktails over the years, and they are all outstanding. They make their own wine also with quite a few options to choose from. I have never tried their wine, but if it’s anything like their cocktails, beer and food, you won’t be disappointed. They even offer specialty Mocktails for the people in your group who are not drinkers.

We know that the reason that I have visited here, the beer. Like I said, I have been here multiple times throughout the years and I keep coming back, so the beer has to be pretty good, right? Over the years some of the beers that I have enjoyed here are the Dark Side of the Brew- American Stout, Island Hopper IPA- American IPA, Red Headed Stepchild- Amber Ale, Navigator- Pale Ale. But the beer that I enjoy the most here and keep coming back for is the Black Sails IPA, which as the name insinuates, is my favorite style of IPA, the Black IPA. It is brewed with the grain bill of a stout, but with hops levels of an IPA. This leads to a dark, roasty, hoppy beer that I just can’t get enough of. Highly recommend stopping by and trying it for yourself someday.

Have you spent all day driving to cross the Mackinac Bridge? Are you thirsty? Do you like excellent drinks and superb food? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, take a trip over to Les Cheneaux Distillery and start living your best yooper life at one of the best places the Upper Peninsula has to offer. Salud!

P.S. None of the photos are from Les Cheneaux. I had a cool picture on an old phone that I couldn’t get transferred in time for today’s post. So unfortunately we just get stock U.P. and drinking beer photos.
