Bad Dad Brewing Co is located in Fairmount, IN, which is in the middle of nowhere Indiana, yet is one of the best breweries I have ever been to in my life!

I stopped by the brewery on my way down to Indianapolis last weekend for the Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest. My friend Walter also happens to live nearby so it was a great meeting spot for us to grab a few beers, split a pizza, and catch up.

I wanted to check out the brewery based on what Walter told me and BDBC’s Instagram posts. Man, those pizzas look good. Overall, I had a great visit and was able to snag a four-pack of the brewery’s Flagships, including You’re Grounded, Mister.

I love a beer with a good joke or pun for the name. Bad Dad Brewing Co’s beers are chock full of Dad joke type names that will at least make you chuckle. I wanted to review You’re Grounded, Mister for the name and also for it being a coffee stout, one of my favorite beer styles.

The stout was brewed in collaboration with The Abbey Coffee Co from nearby Marion, IN. The coffee and chocolate were well balanced upon first sips. Neither was noted as being too strong as the coffee hits on the frontend and the sweet chocolate appears on the backend. As I let the beer warm-up, the chocolate and coffee became stronger and bolder, respectively, and maintain their balance.

This beer was nearly perfect and the same could be said for all of the beers I tried both during my visit with Walter and in my take-home four-pack. The staff and atmosphere were welcoming and I will definitely be back for more beers, including a You’re Grounded, Mister on draft.

Cheers!

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
