I have to say that I am really glad to see that AleSmith has entered Michigan distribution. I am a fan of their Speedway Stout and the few of the many variants of this stout that they offer that I have had the pleasure of tasting. Not being familiar, I hoped that all of their products would be as well done as Speedway Stout. I decided to try their IPA which is aptly named “IPA”. While I can see (taste) what AleSmith is doing with this IPA, I can’t help but be disappointed that they would ship a 2 month old IPA to a new market. The bottle I had was dated 5/10/16 and that seems to be the only batch sitting on Michigan shelves. The price on the 6-pack is a bit hefty, especially for a bottle that has been sitting for two months and losing its character. Its not quite a “fizzy mess”, but its a far cry from the citrus notes and pine that I expect from a fresh West Coast IPA. I will give this one another shot when I can get it fresh.

Cheers!
