Right after I had completed my sober April, Crystal and I went out to Howell for dinner one night. While we were in Howell we took the time to go and visit a brewery that we hadn’t been to in quite a while, Aberrant Ales in the Downtown area of Howell. Aberrant Ales opened their operation in 2017 and has been providing their delicious beverages to the community ever since.

I hadn’t paid a visit to Aberrant Ales in about 5 or 6 years. I remember that the last time that I had visited their taproom was pre-pandemic, so a revisit was definitely in order and I am glad that we decided to pay them a visit again.

One of the very first things that you will notice upon arrival at the brewery, when it comes to the seating at Aberrant Ales, they have plenty of it available. They have a nice long L-shaped bar that has the capacity to seat approximately 10 to 15 thirsty patrons. In addition to the bar seating there are another 20 or so tables scattered around the building for your drinking and dining needs. The tables vary between high tops and low tops. During the warmer months of the year, they do have a few tables available for outdoor seating in front of the bar. For those of you that enjoy playing Cornhole, they do have a few boards available in a dedicated Cornhole space on the other side of the bar.

The brewery is home to events such as Brunches for various holidays, Live Music, Beer Yoga and much more. Check their website and socials to see if there are going to be any events available on your next visit to Aberrant Ales. If you are looking to host a private event at a local brewery, Aberrant Ales does offer the option of renting out their taproom to host private events. Reach out to Aberrant Ales to book your next event today.

Just in case you brought your appetite with you on your visit to Aberrant Ales, you are in luck, there is a full kitchen available at Aberrant Ales. Some of the options on their menu include various Appetizers, Burgers, Sandwiches, Tacos, Pizzas, Salads and rotating Chef specials. Although we did not eat on our visit to the brewery, all the food looked and smelled delicious. Come hungry on your visit to Aberrant Ales.

If you happen to be looking for beverages other than beer on your visit to Aberrant Ales, they do offer various Cocktails that are made using their house made spirits, which include housemade Rum, Whiskey, Gin, Vodka and a few flavored Vodkas. There are also a few Wine selections that are offered on the menu for those of you looking to enjoy a glass of Wine. For non-alcoholic options, their menu consists of quite a few different Mocktails, Sodas and a housemade Root Beer that is offered on tap. Their menu has no shortage of options for lovers of beverages all across the spectrum.

Now we have arrived at the part of the article where we get to talk about the reason for the visit to the brewery, the main event, the final boss, of course I am talking about the beer. We got our obligatory flight to give as much of the menu a try as we possibly could. The options that we tried on our visit were the Hazy and The Boyz- NEIPA, Just A Friend- Amber Ale, Lady Death- Red IPA and Unicorn Corruption- Fruited Sour. All of these were very delicious beers and the reason that I am glad that we revisited Aberrant Ales.

My favorite beer that we tried was their C.R.E.A.M., which as the name suggests is a Cream Ale. It is also a nod to one of my favorite hip-hop groups of all time, the Wu-Tang Clan. This beer was clean, crisp with some slight floral and bread notes. It is very light-bodied and finishes very smooth, this is a perfect lawnmower/ light Summer beer. Since this beer checks in at 5.0% ABV, you can enjoy quite a few of them on a nice Summer day if you desire. I also recommend enjoying a couple of them if you have the time to do so.

The next time you are looking to step out of the box and enjoy a beer that goes against the accepted order of life. I highly recommend that you stop by Aberrant Ales and taste some of the great creations that they are making in Downtown Howell. Cheers!
