Well I have officially been off the wagon for almost a week now. Last Wednesday, I ended up attempting to drink the Murk Madness IPA from Austin Brothers Beer Company. That was the beer that won the vote last week out of the options that I put forth to you guys for my first beer back from Sober April.
Unfortunately, I believe that there was an issue with the can that I had, I don’t believe it was 100 percent sealed and some air got into the can. There was some leakage from the top of the can where they sealed the lid onto the can. I know Austin Brothers Beer and that is not what that beer was supposed to taste like. I won’t even begin to describe what I tasted but trust me, you don’t want to know what I tasted. I don’t pour a beer down the drain often but this was so off-tasting that it actually turned me off from drinking any more beer that night. After not drinking for a month, I figured that would be impossible but it actually happened.
I know that I said that I would review the beer that I decided to drink at Midnight of May first on the page. Since I really love Austin Brothers Beer and beer in general, I will be skipping the review of that beer because I can’t evaluate that correctly seeing as how the beer itself was not optimally stored. It would be disingenuous and would not accurately represent the brewery itself. Just know that drinking one bad beer as a result of a faulty can is not enough to stop me from having great things to say about the high quality products that they produce up there in Alpena. Keep making awesome products Austin Brothers Beer Company, we appreciate everything you contribute to the Michigan Beer Community. Cheers!
Since we don’t get to talk about the beer that I drank at Midnight last Wednesday night/ Thursday Morning, let’s talk about the beers that I have drank and the places that I have visited since Sober April ended.
First on the list, Thursday Afternoon, I had to go out and enjoy a beer since the first one back was a dud. I ended up paying a visit to my friend Joe Walters at 1 For All Brewery in Livonia. I didn’t see him much in the Month of April so I went by to visit Joe. I did have that one day in April where I walked up to his brewery to say hello, type a few articles and enjoy a Mountain Dew while I hung out. Those days are probably better to forget that they happened, hanging out at a brewery completely sober is definitely not as fun as it sounds.
At 1 For All Brewery last Thursday I enjoyed a 1 Upper- Rye IPA and a Numero Uno- Mexican Lager. Both of these beers were much better than the previous night’s selection. I am currently at 1 For All enjoying another pour of the Numero Uno as I type this.
Crystal and I ended up also visiting Aberrant Ales out in Howell, Michigan last week. I hadn’t been there in probably 3 or 4 years but I am glad that we stopped in for a few beers. I will not talk about the beers that I enjoyed during our visit here, a full review of Aberrant Ales will be coming later this week on the page. The review will include the beers that we sampled on our trip to the brewery.
Now we have come to the beers that I have had at work this past week. I had to try a couple of the newer additions to our taplist, the first one being the Devil’s Pillow- Belgian Blonde and the Cerveza de Cordero- Mexican Lager. Our brewer Doug did a fantastic job with both of these beers. The Belgian Blonde checks in at 8.7% so enjoy this one very responsibly, it will catch up to you if you allow it. It caught up to me the other day as I enjoyed a couple of them so proceed with caution. I also went through the taplist and got reacquainted with all of the other options on the taplist. One of the surprises for me was the Passion Fruit Seltzer. I generally don’t care for Seltzers but this one is very delicious.
I believe that is all the options that I have made it through over the past week and there will be plenty of beers to come in my future. The goal for this coming week is to make it into a couple of the beers that have occupied my fridge space over the last month just tempting me to drink them. I even stopped this afternoon and picked up a few more that will occupy my fridge space. I am off to try a few different beers from various, wonderful Michigan breweries. I will be back in a few days with a review of Aberrant Ales. Cheers!
