For the third installment of Hard Seltzer Summer, I bring to you Atwater Brewery‘s version.

Prior to drinking their hard seltzer, I have always been a fan of Atwater’s beer portfolio. This has been the case before and after the deal with Molson Coors. I’ve toured the facility in Detroit and have enjoyed watching the brand grow throughout the state of Michigan.

Heading into the 4th of July weekend, Atwater’s hard seltzer was hard to come by. It seemed like everyone was giving them a try or stocking up. I found a variety pack at a local Meijer. The two-dollar off sale was a nice bonus as I picked up a 12 pack.

The 12 pack is standard for Atwater’s hard seltzer and is available year-round. The 12 pack is made up of four 12 oz slim cans of three flavors – Cherry, Mango, and Lime. According to the initial news about Atwater’s hard seltzer line, they didn’t want to reinvent flavors, so they utilized fruits that were already in-house for their beers.

The macronutrient breakdown for each flavor is the exact same – 99 calories, 0g of fat, 5g of carbs, 0g of protein, and 1g of sugar. Good numbers for those looking for a light yet flavorful hard seltzer. They are all 5% ABV.

When it comes to their hard seltzer brand I was a little confused with what exactly I was buying and drinking. A handful of websites refer to the liquid as “Atwater Seltzer.” The packaging reads “Spiked Sparkling Water.” I know I’m splitting hairs here as it all tastes the same, but c’mon!

The packaging also read “Clear. Crisp. Clean.” and I felt like each flavor checked each box. My favorite of the three was the lime. To date, I’ve four lime flavors of hard seltzer (MiddleCoast [finally!] and Corona) and this one is the truest lime out there. Without any other flavors to compete with, it actually felt like I was drinking freshly squeezed lime water. It was fresh and crisp with plenty of citrusy lime lingering after each sip.

Cheers!

Disclaimer: Ed purchased the hard seltzer for this review.

Ed Norton

Edwin "Ed" Norton was first introduced to craft beer when his designated fraternity Big Brother Vince asked him if he knew anything about the topic. Ed admitted his ignorance and the rest is history as Ed and Vince would split six-packs of craft beers each week during Ed's probationary status. Ed is now a craft beer enthusiast who is always on the lookout for a beer he has not tried when bottle shopping or drinking at breweries and bars. In addition to drinking beer, this livelong Michigan resident enjoys a bunch of hobbies that he doubts you really care about, other than drinking beer and sounding off about it.
