I came across a local IPA that I had heard about when deciding what to write a review on this week. I hadn’t had any products from Grand River Brewery, so I didn’t have a baseline of what to expect, which is generally a good thing to me. After pouring, the first thing I notice is how “murky” Monkey Mouth IPA is. You have absolutely no chance of seeing anything on the other side of the glass. The first sip was surprisingly refreshing and crisp given the physical presentation. It was crisp, but still malty. This is a well balanced IPA with some good hop character and a “surprise” citrus bite in the finish. It’s not “juicy” or “fruity”, but the citrus rinds are present. I really enjoyed this beer and at 6.5%ABV it may not quite be “sessionable” but you can enjoy a couple in one sitting and not be knocked out.
