Beer Review – Gonzo’s Biggdogg Brewing – Yummy Hoppy

Style: Double IPA
ABV: 8.5%
8.5 Stars

My apologies reader, but the responsibility of hosting and cooking for Thanksgiving this weekend has delayed my review this week.   I’m going to make it up to you by reviewing Gonzo’s Biggdogg Double IPA, named Yummy Hoppy.  Yummy Hoppy is well named, as it is both yummy and hoppy.

It pours with a medium, off-white head and has some nice lacing.  I stuck my nose right in the glass and came away with grassy and floral hop notes with hints of citrus.  Yummy Hoppy has a slightly hazy amber golden color that goes with a light to medium body.  The initial flavor is sharp malt and citrusy orange, which gives way to a nice floral hop flavor that slowly builds to an intense but pleasant bitterness.

If you’re into big hoppy beers then pick up a four pack of Yummy Hoppy.  It hits all the right notes of a double IPA without being overly malty, which is my biggest pet peeve with some doubles.  If you’re more into less intensely flavored beers then I’d skip this one.

He now runs the board and does a lot of the back office stuff while the show goes on, keeping everyone in line, and the beer flowing!
